Step into the Moonbeam Classroom and you will witness the children growing right before your eyes! Our “little seedlings” all seem to have green thumbs! Outings to “Peggy’s Garden” have been fun, educational adventures. The class began by preparing Moonbeam’s plot. Using fingers and shovels, the children carefully weeded the soil. Numerous girls and boys expressed an interest in the root systems that were discovered. Next, the Moonbeamers dug holes and helped plant cucumber seedlings. Once watered, the children made numerous predictions. One child said, “They will grow long and big.” Another exclaimed, “The sun needs to come out for the plants.” One boy said, “The leaves will be bigger and bigger.” The Moonbeam children can’t wait to see their crops develop. And, of course, they look forward to delicious, home-grown cucumbers for snack time! The passion for gardening, of course, translated into the classroom setting. Each pupil had the opportunity to decorate and plant his or her own grass head. The children continue to enjoy giving their “green” buddies a haircut from time to time. Ms. Natalie says, “This is a good lesson in what to cut and what not to cut.”  Indeed! Additionally, our Moonbeamers planted pumpkins and sunflowers. Once watered and, at last, sprouted, they were sent home!
