Art is all around us! Recently, the Sunshine children kicked off Magic Garden’s annual DeCordova Sculpture Park and Museum Art Fest! Our kiddos toured deCordova’s main exhibits, viewing countless pieces of contemporary art. They marveled at the different materials employed, offering their own thoughts and interpretations. Later, the girls and boys had a blast romping through the outdoor sculpture park. Teachers observed that our students appeared to be particularly interested in sculptor Sol LeWitt’s installation, Tower. After returning to school, the children were each furnished with sugar cubes and glue. They crafted their own mini sculptures! Our Sunshiners cannot wait for another art adventure at DeCordova.
The Starburst friends are prepared for take off! Recently, a very special guest visited our classroom. One of our students had the opportunity to welcome his father, an Air Force Pilot! Lt. Col. John Penders shared many stories with our students, even demonstrating digital flight pattern displays. Later, the Starburst children tried on Mr. John’s official flying gear, helmet and all. Fun! The Starburst Class followed up by reading numerous books, including My First Airplane Ride by Patricia Hubbell and A is for Airplane by Mary Ann McCabe Riehle. During outdoor gross-motor time, our girls and boys each constructed paper airplanes and soared them through the playground skies!
