Can you feel the love? Our Moonbeam children have kicked off the new school year with a unit on the five senses. Touch is the first segment of this multifaceted unit. The sense of touch positively impacts bonding, emotional health and the development of physical, language and cognitive skills in all children. Sensory play has been a perfect starting point. During Choice Time, the girls and boys have enjoyed koosh ball painting and felt collage projects. Outdoor ventures have been ideal for students to jump, bounce, and run as they explore various environments. Our sensory table is filled with new substances and materials everyday. This includes kinetic sand, foam chunks, pompoms, water, rice, and more. Our most popular sensory substance has been cloud dough. Check out the easy recipe below! Up next: the sense of smell!

EASY CLOUD DOUGH RECIPE

  • 5 cups flour
  • 1 cup cooking oil
  • Mix in child-safe bowl
  • Enjoy!

All aboard! The Rainbow Room recently launched a year-long literature study of author and illustrator, Donald Crews. Beginning with his Caldecott Award favorite, Freight Train, the Rainbow children continue to delight in cozy story times, felt board retellings and dramatic play opportunities. During Choice Time, the boys and girls created train track prints, as well as a collaborative trestle bridge collage. The Rainbow kiddos also helped construct their very own freight train. Using boxes, paint and sensory exploration, our students replicated Crews’ famous and beloved train in the form of a giant classroom installation. Grab your ticket and be sure to take a peek at this masterpiece! Up next: a Donald Crews graphing activity!

Magic Garden will open a second location in Lincoln in early 2019, adding an infant care program and a younger toddler classroom.

Magic Garden has leased space in the First Parish in Lincoln’s Parish House (“the Stone Church”) at 14 Bedford Road.  For many years this site housed the Lincoln Nursery School and, more recently, it was the home of Birches School.  Through the fall, these classrooms will be renovated to meet the specific needs of this younger age group and a new, fenced play area will be constructed for age-appropriate outdoor activities.  The new facility is less than one mile from Magic Garden’s current location, which it will continue to occupy.

Magic Garden will operate two classrooms in the second Lincoln location, one caring for seven infants up to about 15 months in age and one for nine young toddlers up to approximately 24 months in age.  The teaching team for this new location will be led by two experienced Magic Garden teachers, ensuring that the new classrooms offer a philosophy and approach to education and care consistent with Magic Garden’s longstanding practices.
